How to job-hunt like a pro

HELLO!TEACHCLASSROOM // ONLINE OR ABROAD

1. Get your paperwork ready first. Most applications ask for a TEFL certificate (120 hours is the common benchmark), an up-to-date CV with a clear photo where the market expects one, and — depending on the country — a degree certificate and a police clearance for the work visa. Requirements differ by country; confirm the current list for your destination.

2. Know your markets. Online platforms are the fastest way to get paid classroom hours. Asia (Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, China, South Korea) hires at volume. Middle East markets such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia generally pay more but expect degrees and classroom experience. Rules change — always check the latest visa requirements yourself.

3. Watch for red flags. A legitimate school never asks the teacher to pay a placement fee. Be wary of employers who rush you to sign, refuse a video call, or will not put salary, hours and housing terms in the contract. Verify the school exists independently of the recruiter.

4. Apply little and often. Tailored applications to five good jobs beat a copy-paste blast to fifty. Mention your certificate code so employers can verify your training instantly.
